Interview with Marta Casas, Nutritionist
We recently talked with Marta, our superstar Nutritionist, to elaborate on her background and approach.
1. Can you tell us your background in terms of where you are from and how you ended up in Korea?
My name is Marta. I am a licensed Nutritionist and a Pharmacist from Barcelona, Spain. I have been living in Korea for three years now. I moved here with my husband due to his job, while also seeking new professional opportunities. I am very eager to explore new cultures and meet new people, and now through working at Create Wellness Center I have the chance to help patients from all around the world improve their nutrition and overall lifestyle.
2. What led you to study nutrition?
While I was at university studying my major in Pharmacy, I often found myself thinking that nutrition could have a huge impact on our health, not only by preventing diseases but also by supporting the healing process.
Once I started working as a pharmacist, many of my patients were struggling with different conditions that made it clear to me that following healthy Nutrition patterns or a personalized nutritional plan could make a real difference for them.
I then decided to go back to university again and I majored in Human Nutrition and Dietetics while working as a head of a pharmacy office. I believe that nutrition is a great complementary therapy, and that it matches perfectly with my pharmacy background. My goal is to help people embrace their health through nutrition.
3. What kind of training did you receive in nutrition?
After completing my degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, I started offering online consultations, first in Spain and later in Korea, working with patients from different cultural and health backgrounds. This gave me early hands-on experience in adapting nutrition plans to real-life situations.
In addition, I complemented my academic background with specialized training programs in obesity and weight management, metabolic conditions, autoimmune diseases, and hormonal imbalances. I continue updating my knowledge through professional courses and scientific literature, as evidence-based practice is at the core of my work.
4. What types of clients have you worked with in the past?
I have worked with patients struggling with conditions such as pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, and different types of dysbiosis. I have also supported women during key life stages like pregnancy, post-partum, and menopause.
In addition, I have helped athletes preparing for marathons, triathlons, and half-Ironmans to optimize their performance. I have guided people who wanted to navigate Korea while being vegan or vegetarian. And, of course, I have also worked with many patients who wanted to lose weight or improve their body composition.
5. What are some common misconceptions people have about nutrition these days?
Because we live in the social media and artificial intelligence era, many people feel they can become “experts” with just a short online search. But when it comes to health and nutrition, we need to remember that each of us is different, and what works for one person might not work as well for another. There is no such thing as a miracle diet. Nutrition always needs to be adapted to the person, their lifestyle, their health conditions, and even the moment they are in. That is why I focus on evidence-based nutrition and on creating sustainable, realistic plans instead of quick fixes.
“I focus on listening to my body and giving it what it needs to feel nourished and energized”
6. What kind of diet do you personally follow?
I do not like to label the way I eat as a specific diet. Instead, I focus on listening to my body and giving it what it needs to feel nourished and energized. For me, nutrition is about balance: I make sure to include vegetables in all my meals, eat enough protein to support my muscles and recovery, and have complex carbohydrates to fuel my day.
At the same time, I leave room for flexibility, because food is not only about nutrients but also about enjoyment and social connection. This way of eating allows me to truly nourish my body while keeping a healthy relationship with food.
7. What does a typical treatment flow look like for you?
Once you book an appointment, you’ll receive an email with a meal log to complete beforehand. This gives me a first impression of your eating habits, your strengths, and the areas we can improve.
During our initial visit, which lasts about one hour, I will gather detailed information not only about your nutrition but also about your exercise, stress, and overall health. Together, we will create a plan that suits your needs, and I’ll answer any nutrition questions you may have.
Within about a week, you will receive your personalized nutrition plan by email, and depending on your case, we may schedule a follow-up session.
Marta Casas sees clients in our Itaewon branch every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
