카이로프랙틱이라는 말은 그리스어에서 파생되었는데 ‘손’을 뜻하는 ‘카이로(chiro-)”와 치료를 뜻하는 ’프락티스(practice)’라는 합성어입니다.
즉 약과 수술에 의존하지 않고 주로 의사의 손으로 여러 가지 질환을 치료한다는 의미입니다.
카이로프랙틱은 지금으로부터 100년 전인 1895년 미국의 데이비드 파머(D. D. Palmer)박사에 의해 처음으로 의학적 체계를 갖추었습니다
