The key to real health is to have every organ, tissue, and system of your body functioning exactly as it was designed.
Health has nothing to do with how you feel, your temperature, or whether symptoms are present. Those who die of heart attacks, cancer, or dozens of other health problems suffer ill health long before their first symptom!
Real health allows us to adapt to the environment, cooling us when we’re hot, fighting a virus, healing a cut, digesting our food, and millions of other vital activities. When there is interference to this complex orchestra of controlling nerve impulses, the resulting symptoms are simply warning signs that things are not right.
The chiropractic approach to real health is to locate any part of the nervous system that has lost proper control of the organs and tissues of your body.
A common culprit is when the moving bones of the spinal column choke or irritate the spinal cord or nerve roots. Locating, reducing, and preventing these “Vertebral Subluxations” is the primary interest of your Doctor of Chiropractic.
Real health is not how you feel; it’s how you function!
How Well Does Your Body Work?
If you lose your car keys, simply retrace your steps and you’ll likely find them. Lose your health and finding it can be just as easy — if you know where to look.
The Germ Theory
Germs no more cause disease than cars cause automobile accidents.
The viruses and bacteria we call germs are everywhere. They’re in the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the water we drink. They can only result in disease when our bodies provide a hospitable environment for them to reproduce.
For example, let’s say you inhale some tuberculosis germs. Just because these germs are present does not mean you’ll get tuberculosis. It depends upon many factors, such as the health of your lungs, the function of your immune system, and your overall health.
The nervous system controls the proper function (health) of your lungs and all the other tissues and organs of your body. That’s why your chiropractic doctor is so keenly interested in the integrity of your nervous system. Since the controlling nerve impulses travel through the spinal column, chiropractic care can have an affect on many aspects of health besides back and neck pain.
If the presence of germs automatically caused disease, you would have a constant head cold and suffer from a chronic case of the flu!
Do You Believe?
Germs are everywhere. The “germ theory” that most people use to explain disease, is a carry-over from the early 1800s. These microscopic organisms are one of the most misunderstood aspects of health. Do you still believe in germs?
You have a special “intelligence” that knows to beat your heart, digest your food, ward of infections, heal a cut, and help you adapt to the environment.
Doctors of Chiropractic refer to this vital life force as innate intelligence.
Fortunately it requires no conscious thought. It has nothing to do with being “smart” and it works perfectly – unless there is some type of interference.
Your nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord, and all the nerves of your body help control your innate “life expression.” This intricate web of delicate nerves is in touch with every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body. Any disruption, irritation, or change in the ability of your nervous system to orchestrate the functions of your body can set the stage for disease and ill health.
One of the most common nervous system disruptions is the Vertebral Subluxation.
When bones of the spinal column lose their normal motion or position, they can rub, choke, or irritate the spinal cord and nerve roots. This is why your chiropractic doctor is interested in innate intelligence.
Removing interferences to the function of your nervous system allows your body’s inborn healing ability to do its job.
A Special Intelligence
Inside the trillions of cells of your body is a “special something” found only in things that are alive. The great thinkers have been fascinated by this special something. What separates living tissue like you, from ice cream cones, automobiles, or granite statues?
Chiropractic is a unique healing discipline. Its success with a variety of health problems is the result of a focus on the relationship between the nervous system and the spinal column. The effectiveness, safety, and simplicity of this approach to relief and wellness, make chiropractic the most popular form of natural health care.
